Office of Open Practice was commissioned by non-profit La Vaca Independiente & curator Daniela Perez to develop a youth curriculum in the form of a series of art projects for at-risk children to learn about the life-cycle and environmental impact of trash.

One of the most vulnerable labor sectors is waste collection. The people responsible for collecting trash from millions of households do their job day after day, despite the inherent risks involved in handling all kinds of foreign waste. Despite the differences in garbage collection systems that prevail in large cities compared to smaller communities in our country, we all have the capacity to focus our attention and imagine analytical, critical, and creative proposals to support and collaborate with the work of waste collectors.

Attempts and initiatives to address the various issues related to waste and our environment are not new; however, today we need to create different spaces and platforms, and take action. The initiative "La Basura de Todos" (Everyone's Trash) is an exercise lead by Office of Open Practice. This workshop allows us to assist children and young people in thinking about the lifecycle of our waste: where it ends up; what it becomes; how to reuse it, and even imagine how to create a collection from it.
