Memory Monument is a tool for cities to engage the public about the difficult subject of existing and/or proposed monuments and memorials. It functions as a public memory game about monuments and memorials, introducing the public to frameworks with which to discuss and analyze the forms and intentions behind representations of memory. Furthermore, it provides language for discussing the often emotionally fraught canon of monuments and memorials. As more voices are included in public memorialization, further questions as to whose voices are represented in public space and why, become more pressing. Memory Monument deliberately puts monuments and memorials in conversation with each other across geographies, across events and across communities. Memory Monument invites the people who engage with it into the conversation and gives them the tools to keep that conversation going.
